Gitana Winery - Moldawien

past

SOVIET PERIOD

The passage of time has shown that this wine region, the Trajan Valley, is truly exceptional for vineyards. The year 1953 marks a turning point in the history of Tiganca Winery, which turned into a real "wine factory" and moved its headquarters to the village of Plopi. The winery soon became very popular in Moldova and abroad due to the excellent quality of the wines produced here.

The location of the winery, the specific climatic and topographical conditions as well as the talent of the winemakers have produced exceptional wines, one of the best examples being the typical Tokaji wine with an intense raisin flavor - "Nejnosti" (tenderness). The wine cellars, kept in the cellars of the Gitana winery, are the most eloquent proof of the potential of this area and the success recorded over time. Its own collection of quality wines is a real treasure and a reason for national pride, including Trifesti 1970, Auriu 1972 or Gratiesti 1973.

RENAISSANCE

A more painful chapter was experienced by the wine industry in 1985-1990, when on the territory of the URSS there was a massive campaign to ban alcohol, and all winemakers suffered.

A NEW BEGINNING

The year 1999 can be seen as a new beginning for Vinig Tiganca. The winery passes into the ownership of the Dulgher family, who make great efforts to re-equip the factory, renovate the cellars, equip them with barrels and oak vats and of course plant new vineyards. Step by step, traditional winemaking practices have been combined with modern technologies.

PLANTING OWN VINES

The year 2002 starts with planting our own vines at a distance of 70 km from the winery in the villages of Romanovca and Filipeni in the Valul lui Traian wine region. The planting took place with the participation of experts from the National Institute of Vine and Wine of Moldova, who selected the vineyards with the most suitable soils for each grape variety.

CREATION OF THE GITANA BRAND

In 2009 he started the project to create a symbolic brand that would successfully represent the wines produced by Vinaria Tiganca. Consequently, the Gitana brand appears, marking the beginning of a new stage in the development of the winery.

THE APPEARANCE OF THE FIRST SERIES OF WINES UNDER THE GITANA BRAND

2011 marks the appearance of the first series of bottled wines under the Gitana brand. This collection includes dry aged wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Merlot 2009, Riesling de Rhein 2009 and Feteasca Regala 2009. In 2012, Saperavi 2011 wine is launched, along with the winery's first blends: Lupi Rezerva 2009 and La Petite Sophie 2010, which have already become emblematic wines for the Gitana winery.
